Mizner Feeds 400 Local Families with ‘Eat Better Live Better’ & ‘Wise Tribe’

MIZNER COUNTRY CLUB FEEDS 400 WITH DONATION OF HOT MEALS TO PALM BEACH COUNTY CHILDREN AND FAMILIES TEAMING UP WITH NON-PROFITS ‘EAT BETTER LIVE BETTER’ AND ‘WISETRIBE’

DELRAY BEACH FL, May 14, 2020Executive Chef Orlin McLendon and the culinary team at Mizner Country Club prepared nutritious hot meals last Friday, May 7, 2020, that fed 400 Palm Beach County low-income families.  The project was a collaborated effort with non-profits Eat Better Live Better (EBLB) and WiseTribe whose volunteers delivered the meals to recipients who experienced job losses and other financial stresses due to the coronavirus outbreak.  WiseTribe and Eat Better Live Better are committed to strengthening the neighborhoods of those served with healthy food solutions.

Volunteers from the two non-profit organizations, headed by Debra Tendrich, EBLB, and Jacqueline Botting, of WiseTribe, picked up the meals at Mizner Country Club that filled their entire lobby. Members of the club’s “Mizner Cares Committee” helped load the gift bags into the cars including several children who are on the Mizner committee.

Larry Savvides, Mizner Country Club’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, was part of the initiative and helped fill the cars.  When asked why EBLB and Wise Tribe were chosen, Savvides, explained, “The majority of low-income recipients were families with children and seniors without vehicles who are unable to make it to food distribution sites; some not even able to leave their home because of certain vulnerabilities to the disease.”  The gift bags were prepared with a hot meal consisting of all-natural turkey Bolognese and fresh pasta, house-cured cucumber and tomato salad, herbed garlic knots and fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. The organizations delivered the meals directly to the recipients’ doorsteps along with baskets of produce from EBLB and Wise Tribe’s contributors.

Savvides added, “We are honored to be partnering with these two incredibly dedicated organizations who are giving back to our community by helping those who are so severely in need through no fault of their own.  I am extremely touched by the outpouring of support from the Mizner membership and thank them for their contributions to this project.  We look forward to partnering with these two admirable non-profits again in the future.”

Commenting on Mizner’s participation, Jacqueline Botting, Founder/Chief Visionary of WiseTribe, said, “On behalf of WiseTribe and Eat Better Live Better, we thank you, Executive Chef, Orlin McLendon, the Board of Directors, Mizner Cares Committee, and the membership and employees of Mizner Country Club for generously helping us feed local families in need last night.”

“Our organizations, both Delray Beach-based 501(c)3 non-profits providing food-related programming to local children, joined forces to feed families which have been devastated by the loss of income because of COVID-19.  Your Club’s thoughtful contribution of warm, delicious meals helped us feed children and families who need it most in Delray Beach. An evening of bliss, comfort, and peace of mind is exactly what you provided last night.”  Shared Debra Tendrich of ELBT, “We are deeply grateful for Mizner Country Club’s support and assistance in making our work possible.  We could not do this without the kindness and concern of people like you.”

“Unprecedented times have called for unprecedented actions. At Mizner Country Club we are all working together to protect our health, the health of our families and friends, as well as those in our community,” said Savvides.
