Named CENTRAL, the project, which added 41,000 sq. ft. to the club in two buildings, includes new restaurants, an Aquatic Center, original artwork from renowned “Postgraffism” artists, and fully equipped game rooms for both adults and kids. The Delray Beach, Fla. club also unveiled a “Total Technogym Fitness Center.”
Mizner Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla. unveiled its $22 million expansion project and officially ushered in a new era in the country club’s history. The completed expansion project, named CENTRAL, includes a “Total Technogym Fitness Center,” new restaurants, an Aquatic Center; original artwork from renowned “Postgraffism” artist Ruben Gerardo Umbiera Gonzalez and Golden, and fully equipped game rooms for both adults and kids.
C+RB reported on the project in May 2018.
In addition to Board of Directors President Steven Nathan and General Manager & COO Larry Savvides, who cut the celebratory ribbon, Palm Beach District 5 Commissioner Mary Lou Berger attended the event.
“In designing CENTRAL, we’ve reimagined life at Mizner,” said Nathan. “By designing more than just aesthetically pleasing spaces, we’ve planned a lifestyle with amenities built to fit the way our members want to live in today’s technological and environmental universe; that flexes and adapts to fit our families’ individual wants and needs day in and day out. It is truly a testament to Mizner’s prominence as a leading country club community.”
Added Savvides, who noted that the expansion adds 41,000 sq. ft. to the club: “CENTRAL is the culmination of over four years of planning and construction. We’ve carefully considered every aspect of what our members were asking for in their community setting – both their needs and desires.
“The result is the creation of a gateway to an unforgettable lifestyle,” Savvides said. “The Board of Directors, the staff and everyone involved in this project extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Mizner membership community who may have been inconvenienced during the construction phase. We know the wait is well worth it.”
CENTRAL is divided into sections—a North and South Building—each having two levels. The North Building’s lower level houses a group cycling studio complete with video and lighting effects, Pilates studio, aerobics room, massage therapy & tranquility rooms, steam rooms, tennis shop, and golf cart parking. The upper level is totally devoted to the Technogym Fitness Center and retail shop.
The South Building lower level will be the home of two restaurants—the Craft Bar & Grill and The Market Café—both to open later this year. The upper level houses the ladies card room and a dual-purpose meeting room, Mizner Kids’ activity center, an Arcade for all ages, conference room, HOA offices and the bridge to the main clubhouse, which also will open later this year.
“Mizner is the first U.S. country club on the east coast in Florida to be equipped as a Total Technogym Fitness Center,” Nathan noted. Technogym has been the official supplier to the Olympic games for the last six years, he added.
“Mizner Country Club will be one of Technogym’s flagship country-club facilities,” Nathan said. “Their state-of-the-art equipment gives users a ‘Connected Wellness Experience’—using technology to personalize training. Each piece of equipment connects to a user’s personal mobile device so each individual can keep track of their fitness, set goals, find their content, and utilize special training programs while gauging their progress on any Technogym equipment. Users can also access their information and training programs on any Technogym machine, from anywhere, and from any personal device—mobile, tablet, smart TV, PC, MyWellness key and more.”
Savvides also noted that “One of the unique attributes of CENTRAL is its original artwork. We commissioned urban-pop artists Ruben Ubiera and his partner Golden to create a fresh take on tradition in several prominent areas throughout the complex. Both are world-renowned artists known for their graffiti-inspired techniques.
“Ruben is a neo-figurative artist, known for his strong use of the line, graffiti-inspired technique/esthetic, urban murals, mixed-media pieces and installations, all created with reclaimed-objects and found artifacts,” Savvides added. “He paints and draws in a style considered as Postgraffism, or as he prefers to call it, urban pop since he has lived most of his life in urban, populated areas and most of his inspiration is derived from the interactivity between a man and his urban environment. At the age of 15, his family moved to the Bronx, New York, where he was heavily influenced by the graffiti art that surrounded him, something he wouldn’t realize until much later in his life.”
The artwork now adorns the walls of the Market Café, The Craft Bar & Grill, The Fitness Center, Mizner Kids, the Arcade and Mizner’s Group Cycling Room.
While the Market Café will not be open until later this fall, Savvides noted, it promises to be the central hub of activity because of the way it’s physically connected within CENTRAL. It will be the place where people come to slow down, catch up with friends, or simply make a quick stop to grab a snack to take on the go. Grabbing a smoothie after a grueling workout, taking it to go to work, or taking it on the walk back home—it’s all about options.
“We see it as a place where friends gather together for coffee, much like the ‘Central Perk’ on the TV show ‘Friends’,” Savvides said.
CENTRAL’s new Aquatic Center & Spa is complete with a unique Poolside Restaurant & Bar designed by Pamela Manhas, the architectural designer behind more than 100 restaurants, including local favorites: Burt & Max’s Bar & Grille, Apeiro Kitchen & Bar, and Lucille’s Bad To The Bone BBQ.
Nathan also noted the efforts of CENTRAL’s general contractor Proctor Construction, Leo A. Daly the Architectural firm, Owner’s Representative & Project Management by CBRE, and landscape design by Krent Wieland Design.
