Food Drive for Lady Queen of Peace Parish

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have devastating economic effects on the lives of many in the Delray Beach community, Mizner Country Club’s “Mizner Cares” Committee decided to take action to help their community during this very difficult time.

Mizner Cares Committee Chair Susan Lyman explains, “We recognized that there are those in our community who are hurting because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, a need for non-perishable food items for many families within the Delray Beach community. Rather than just ask for money, the Mizner Cares Committee decided to collect essential dry good products.  We partnered with Our Lady Queen Of Peace Parish for the distribution of our donations.”

The two-week collection campaign resulted in three carloads of dry goods.  “Once again the Mizner Community overwhelmingly came together to support Mizner Cares.  What made this event even more fulfilling was that the Church’s Pastor, Reverend Moacir Balen was not only able to supply his congregation with our donations but also went into the fields surrounding his Church to deliver food to the field workers.  Truly a case of paying it forward,” said Lyman.

In thanking the Mizner community Reverend Balan noted, “While we are happy to provide both the spiritual help and whatever daily help some may need, there are limits to our abilities.  Having friends like you in our community help us expand those limits and continue to the service that we are committed to.”

Larry Savvides, Mizner Country Club’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, added, “It is overwhelming to see the outpouring of support our membership continues to show for neighbors helping neighbors who are struggling because of the COVID-19 outbreak.  It truly enforces our motto – We are Mizner. I thank Susan Lyman and Laura Ostheimer for their efforts in this worthwhile project.”
