20 Dec Bringing the Community Together: Holiday Initiatives
Mizner Country Club is more than a beautiful facility with amazing people. “The members, staff and residents at Mizner also realize how fortunate we all are, and we strive to give back to our community whenever and however we can,” said Susan Lyman, Mizner member and Chair of the Mizner Cares Committee. Lyman adds, “From organized events like Charity Weekend and food drives to gifts for local children, we are thankful to be part of such a generous and thoughtful community.” This time of year can be a particularly special time to contribute to the community and bring joy to those in need.
Here are just a few initiatives Mizner Country Club put together this holiday season:
Angel Tree
Mizner’s employees partnered with The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County to host an Angel Tree giving project. According to Hospitality Trainer, Jessica Esteves, “It’s our third year participating in this program, and it brings us so much joy to know we’re a part of gifting efforts for over 500 children in Palm Beach County.” For 2018, all of our Managers and additional employees were paired with a child “Angel” for whom they provided an unwrapped gift that was on the child’s wish list. Thirty employees participated this year totaling over 100 gifts donated from Mizner.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Kicking off the holiday months, Mizner collaborated with Feeding South Florida for Thanksgiving. Coming together as a team, the staff at Mizner collected over 60 pounds of nonperishable goods for families in need.
Feed the Community
On November 20, Mizner joined forces with two other local country clubs to aid Congregation B’nai Israel and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church with their 35th annual Feed the Community Program. Each country club donated a side dish and this year Mizner provided green beans to feed more than 4,000 people for Thanksgiving Dinner.. This was Mizner’s 10th year participating in the program.
Blood Drive
When one person donates blood, it saves three people’s lives. That is why both members and employees participated in this noble cause. Together, Mizner collected 22 pints of blood, impacting some 66 lives. This drive was initiated by the Mizner Cares Committee, whose mission is to make a difference through members and staff volunteers. Another great deed, indeed!
Food Collection
The future of Mizner belongs to the younger generation—Mizner kids! Even they participate in giving back to the community. In the new year, our Mizner Cares’ Kids are organizing a food drive, to collect nonperishable goods in partnership with Feeding South Florida. Did you know that nearly 250,000 children go to bed hungry, many of them right in the area? Mizner Kids care!
Mizner’s collective generosity touches many and goes beyond the gates! They truly make the South Florida community a better place.
